CAIRO, March 6 (MENA) - Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation and Governor of Egypt at the New Development Bank (NDB) Rania el Mashat reiterated the ministry’s commitment to effective development cooperation with the NDB by implementing strong monitoring and evaluation practices to ensure accountability, transparency and achieve impactful results in line with national priorities and sustainable development goals.
During her participation Thursday in the opening session of a conference organized by the NDB in cooperation with the International Development Evaluation Association (IDEAS), entitled "Multidimensional Evaluation for Impact and Transformation", the minister of international cooperation said the use of policies based on data and evidence is among basic pillars of the ministry’s new framework.
The gathering discussed the impact of emerging challenges following the coronavirus pandemic, most notably geopolitical tensions, on efforts to achieve sustainable development, especially in terms of climate action and social empowerment.
According to Mashat, the use of policies based on data and evidence is also crucial to ensuring mutual accountability and transparency, ensuring that resources are used efficiently and that initiatives achieve aspired results, while promoting economic growth and sustainable development at the same time.
Multidimensional assessment is essential, not only for achieving sustainable development, but also serves as a vital mechanism for enhancing country ownership, she pointed out.
Mashat lauded the NDB’s efforts to establish an independent evaluation office to improve the NDB’s development effectiveness, facilitate multilateral engagement and support the Bank’s mandate, through integrated evaluations of its programs and activities. (MENA)
