The foreign minister told reporters at the press conference that an agreement has been reached on the names of the interim committee that will manage the Gaza Strip for a period of six months, coinciding with the empowerment of the Palestinian Authority to assume its responsibilities in the sector. He pointed out that this committee will not be affiliated with any political party, as it includes professionals and independent technocrats.
Regarding security in Gaza, Abdelatty explained that discussions have been held with the Palestinian side, noting that there are police officers within the sector, and efforts are under way to rehabilitate and provide the necessary training to enable them to carry out security tasks and enforce the law. Additionally, extra personnel are being recruited to strengthen security, he said.
He added that a list of the names of those who will be maintaining law and order in the strip has been proposed to start the training process in Egypt, where they will undergo several months of training before returning to Gaza to take on their security responsibilities.
Abdelatty emphasized that the plan approved by Arab leaders is now a comprehensive Arab plan, not just an Egyptian one. He explained that an emergency meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation will be held on March 7, aiming to adopt this plan as a joint Arab and Islamic plan.
The top diplomat pointed out that the statement issued by the summit addressed several key issues, including the formation of an Arab ministerial committee tasked with engaging with the international community and visiting foreign capitals to inform them of the details of the plan.
He added that once the plan was approved, it was shared with several international parties, led by the United States, which was briefed on its details. There has also been communication with the European Union, and meetings have been held with several international ambassadors to inform them of the plan's contents, according to him.
Abdelatty confirmed that there is an Arab consensus on rejecting the displacement of Palestinians under any pretext, highlighting the role played by US President Donald Trump in achieving the ceasefire agreement, with expectations for him to continue implementing the remaining agreed-upon stages.
He added that there is an Arab desire to build on Trump’s statements regarding the rejection of wars and conflicts and to promote coexistence and peace, aiming to put an end to the humanitarian tragedy that Palestinians have been enduring for seven decades.
The statement from the summit also included an Arab agreement to establish an international credit fund to oversee the reconstruction of Gaza, organizing all financial commitments and funds related to the recovery and reconstruction process in a transparent and structured manner, he said.
The minister also mentioned that President Abdel Fattah El Sisi met before the extraordinary summit with the president of the European Council, where the latter confirmed the European Union’s full support for the plan and readiness to contribute to its implementation.
Abdelatty added that there have been positive responses and encouraging impressions from several European countries, reflecting international interest in supporting Gaza reconstruction efforts.
In this regard, he said that all Egyptian embassies abroad have been tasked with engaging with the relevant authorities in their host countries to brief them on the plan’s various stages and work on mobilizing political and financial support for its successful implementation.
He clarified that many matters were accomplished during the summit, and the plan was approved, including pertaining to the formation of the special committee for Gaza. He stressed that the plan’s implementation is contingent on the continuation of the ceasefire and the transition to the second phase.
