CAIRO, Feb 26 (MENA) – Egypt, as the current chair of the Khartoum Process, co-hosted a meeting in Addis Ababa on ensuring the safe and dignified return and reintegration of migrants, in partnership with Switzerland and Ethiopia.
Wael Badawi, deputy assistant foreign minister for migration, said the discussions tackled voluntary return programs, reintegration challenges, and investment in origin and destination countries to support long-term stability.
Officials stressed the need for a structured system to assist returning migrants and ensure sustainable reintegration.
The meeting aligns with Egypt’s migration strategy, balancing humanitarian, political, and security concerns.
Egypt will host the Khartoum Process Ministerial Conference in April 2025, chaired by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Migration, with participation from African and European officials.
The Khartoum Process, a political platform for migration cooperation between East Africa and Europe, includes 40 member states, the EU, Switzerland, and Norway. (MENA)
