CAIRO, Feb 5 (MENA) - Ahmed el Zaher, the CEO of the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA), highlighted growth in the field of electronics design and embedded systems as the number of companies operating in this domain shot up from 34 firms in 2016 to over 80 companies by the end of 2024, including 20 international and 60 local companies.

In statements on Wednesday, Zaher said the expansion in this domain will enhance job opportunities as more than 9,000 specialized engineers work in this field.

He referred to ongoing investments and market growth in Egypt in this sector.

He outlined Egypt Makes Electronics (EME) strategy, which focuses on localizing electronics manufacturing, particularly mobile phones and communication devices, as well as design and production of electronic circuits and systems.

The strategy seeks to form the basis for specialized cadres in electronic circuit design and embedded systems, establish innovation hubs in technological areas and CREATIVA Innovation Hubs, and create advanced laboratories for develop initial models.

It also seeks to catalyze investments in the electronics sector, empower research and development, and support startups and innovators.

Since its launch, the strategy has made significant progress and successfully lured major mobile phone manufacturers to the Egyptian market, either by establishing headquarters or manufacturing products in specialized factories in Egypt.

El Zaher asserted that ITIDA will proceed with its efforts to encourage global companies to invest in Egypt, not only in the manufacturing score but also in semiconductor design and embedded electronic systems, thus enhancing Egypt's position as a regional hub for electronics manufacturing.(MENA)
