CAIRO, Feb 2 (MENA) – Member of Parliament (MP) Mohamed Abu El Enein underscored the importance of artificial intelligence (AI) and the significant advancements brought about by technology, warning of the major challenges facing its uses.

This came during an Arab dialogue on AI, organized by the Arab League under the theme “Artificial Intelligence in the Arab World: Innovative Applications and Ethical Challenges,” where he stressed the need for collective Arab efforts to develop a strategy that ensures the optimal use of these technologies. The dialogue was headed by Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Abul Gheit.

Abu El Enein said: “What we have witnessed recently in terms of dangerous uses of artificial intelligence, most particularly in the fields of armament and remote assassination operations, requires us to take urgent action to develop a clear vision for the future of artificial intelligence.”

The deputy speaker of the Egyptian House of Representatives called for drawing up an integrated Arab strategy to deal with artificial intelligence, through the adoption of realistic policies, legislation and practices. He stressed the importance of addressing any challenges that may hinder the achievement of this strategy, to ensure maximum benefit from it for the best interest of the Arab region. (MENA)
