CAIRO, Jan 26 (MENA) - Egypt emphasized commitment to the constants and parameters of the political settlement of the Palestinian problem, stressing that it remains the central issue in the Middle East region.
This came in a statement issued Sunday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates where it warned that any delay in resolving the Palestinian problem, ending the Israeli occupation and restoring the rights of the Palestinian people is the main cause of instability in the region.
The statement expressed Egypt's continued support for the steadfastness of the Palestinian people on their land and voiced commitment to backing their legitimate rights to their land, independence and statehood, in adherence to the rules of international law and international humanitarian law.
It stressed rejection of any violation of these inalienable rights, whether through settlement expansion, land annexation, or through the expulsion of the indigenous people via their forcible displacement. It warned that such actions, including encouraging the transfer or uprooting of Palestinians from their land, whether temporarily or for a long-term, “threaten stability, increase the potential for the conflict to spread across the region, and undermine the prospects for peace and coexistence among its peoples.”
The ministry urged the world community to begin the implementation of the two-state solution on the ground, through the establishment of a Palestinian state on its full national territory and guaranteeing the unity of Gaza and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions.
