CAIRO, Jan 2 (MENA) - Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty underlined the necessity of allowing the access of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip and stopping Israel's systematic violations against Palestinians, which breach all international conventions.
The foreign minister stressed the urgency of reaching a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue, which ensures the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the 4 June 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Abdelatty made the comments during his meeting on Thursday with Jonathan Powell, the British prime minister's national security adviser, said Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Tamim Khallaf.
The foreign minister briefed Powell on Egypt's efforts to secure an immediate ceasefire agreement in the Palestinian enclave.
The spokesman stated that the two sides probed ways of fostering bilateral relations and exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual concern.
The pair tackled the successive developments in Syria, where the foreign minister emphasized Egypt's position on the need to preserve the country's stability and national institutions and respect its unity and territorial integrity.
Abdelatty stated that the political transition process in Syria should be inclusive and led by Syrians without any foreign interference.
The meeting took up the situation in Sudan, where the foreign minister emphasized Egypt's position on the necessity of stopping fighting and accelerating the entry of humanitarian assistance to the country, as well as enabling national institutions.
Regarding bilateral relations, the foreign minister called for strengthening ties between Egypt and Britain in the political, economic and investment areas. (MENA)
