CAIRO, Dec 15 (MENA) - Ambassador Mahmoud Omar, the director of Palestine department at the Foreign Ministry, emphasized Egypt's total rejection of attempts to liquidate the Palestinian cause as well as its warnings of the hazards of these actions on the regional stability.

The ambassador was delivering Egypt's speech before the Conference of Supervisors of Palestinian Affairs at the Arab League that kicked off Sunday at the headquarters of the AL, under the chairmanship of Egypt.

"Our meeting today takes place at a critical juncture for our central cause and for our region; the Palestinian cause. Israel continues its brutal war against our brethren in Gaza," Omar said.

"The war has lasted for over a year, resulting in the deaths of more than 45,000 Palestinians and over 106,000 people wounded. Their sacrifices strengthen our resolve to uphold the Palestinian people's legitimate right to establish an independent state on lands occupied in 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital."

He added that Egypt, since the eruption of the war on Gaza, has been working tirelessly on three fronts: humanitarian, security and political to achieve a ceasefire and stem the bloodshed.

The ambassador highlighted Egypt's efforts to ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid and evacuate the wounded Palestinians for treatment in Egyptian hospitals.

"Egypt continues to emphasize Israel's responsibility as an occupying power to provide all humanitarian needs for the people of Gaza, stop obstructing the flow of aid into the Strip and to end its unjust and inhumane blockade, the ambassador said.

"Egypt is committed to mobilizing international support to enhance the humanitarian response to the crisis in Gaza and to provide the necessary assistance to the residents.

"Egypt has always firmly rejected any plans aimed at liquidating the Palestinian cause and calls to displace Palestinians from their homeland. Such actions constitute a grave violation of international law and undermine the two-state solution.

"The humanitarian catastrophe in the occupied Palestinian territories, both in Gaza and the West Bank, make us even more committed to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) that plays an indispensable role in supporting the Palestinians brothers and sisters, especially in Gaza."
