CAIRO, Dec 4 (MENA) - Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and his Ugandan counterpart Henry Okello met Wednesday to discuss bilateral cooperation and issues of mutual concern.

Abdelatty praised deep and historical relations between Cairo and Kampala, said Foreign Ministry spokesman Tamim Khallaf.

He reviewed activities of Egyptian companies in Africa, particularly in the fields of construction and energy, Khallaf added.

The meeting also took up joint coordination to upgrade ties to the level of strategic partnership, the spokesman noted. Abdelatty stressed the importance of boosting cooperation at the economic and trade levels to better serve interests of both peoples, Khallaf said.

The two top diplomats talked about the situation in the Great Lakes, Sahel and Lake Chad Basin, and Horn of Africa regions, Khallaf said, adding they agreed on the need to adopt a comprehensive strategy to counter terrorism.

Abdelatty underscored Al Azhar's willingness to train Ugandan imams, the spokesman said.

The meeting also took up efforts to reform and upgrade the African Union, he added.

Figuring high at the talks was also the water security file, with both sides stressing the need to govern transboundary water management cooperation along the Nile River in line with international law, Khallaf said. (MENA)
