AMMAN, Nov 1 (MENA) - President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s top priority is to develop the agricultural sector, which is very important for Egyptian citizens, Agriculture and Land Reclamation Minister Alaa Farouk told MENA.
The minister’s remarks came on the sidelines of the the Regional Forum on Accelerating Food Systems Transformation in the Arab Region, which is taking place in Jordan.
He said Sisi is keen to expand the country’s area of agricultural land and provide citizens with products at low prices.
The president also prioritizes the increase of agricultural exports, Farouk said, noting that the state works on carrying out a strategy to increase such exports to $25 billion within three years.
The government buys wheat from local farmers at the price of EGP 2,200 per ardeb to encourage domestic wheat cultivation, according to him.
The minister added that Egypt is an indispensable player in joint Arab action aimed at overcoming challenges facing the agricultural sector. (MENA)
