CAIRO, July 2 (MENA) - Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty said Cairo is looking forward to maintaining coordination with Copenhagen on various regional and international issues of common concern.
Abdelatty made the remarks during a phone call with his Danish counterpart Lars Løkke Rasmussen on Wednesday, to congratulate him on his country's assumption of the rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union from July 1 to December 31, 2025.
Hailing the robust ties binding both countries, which was demonstrated by high-level visits and meetings between Egyptian and Danish officials, most notably was President Abdel Fattah El Sisi's visit to Denmark in December 2024, Abdelatty expressed Egypt's keenness on furthering bilateral cooperation, especially at the economic and investment levels, and launching an Egyptian-Danish Business Council.
Abdelatty also praised Denmark's support for Egyptian interests within the EU, especially when it comes to approving a €4 billion second tranche of a larger €7.4 billion macro-financial assistance (MFA) package for Egypt.
Abdelatty also applauded Denmark's effective role as a non-permanent member of the Security Council for 2025-2026, especially on issues that threaten international peace and security.
Reviewing Egypt's efforts to de-escalate the situation in the region, reach a ceasefire in Gaza, and ensure a safe access to humanitarian aid into the war-torn strip, Abdelatty briefed the Danish official on Egypt's efforts to host an international conference on early recovery and reconstruction in Gaza as soon as a ceasefire agreement is reached.
The two sides also discussed the latest developments regarding the ceasefire between Iran and Israel, emphasizing the need to maintain the ceasefire, de-escalate the situation, and push for a diplomatic solution to the conflict.
Abdelatty stressed Egypt's support for any efforts aimed at achieving security and stability in the Middle East. (MENA)
