NEW ALAMEIN CITY, June 25 (MENA) - Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli has expressed hope for adherence to the ceasefire between Israel and Iran, following 12 days of conflict and war.

He expressed hope that this ceasefire would mark the beginning of an end to the broader regional conflict.

Madbouli made the remarks following a Cabinet meeting at the government headquarters in New Alamein City on Wednesday, the Cabinet's Media Office said in a statement.

Egypt has consistently called for prioritizing reason and wisdom, and avoiding dragging the region into a full-scale war that would negatively affect every country, he said.

“The region could have been pulled into such a war had it not been for the recent ceasefire. We have seen the consequences of these events, including what happened to the sisterly country Qatar,” he added.

Egypt condemned the attacks on Qatar, Madbouli said, noting that President Abdel Fattah El Sisi was in contact with Qatari Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to emphasize Egypt's keenness on the safety of all Gulf states.

“We are very pleased with the ceasefire and express our strong desire for its continuation,” he said, pointing out that Egyptian diplomacy played a major role in that end.

The foreign minister presented a report to the Cabinet detailing all efforts made by the ministry and other state bodies concerned to prioritize reason and achieve a ceasefire, the prime minister said.

Madbouli also reviewed Egypt’s actions amid this unprecedented crisis since day one, noting that immediate meetings have been held with all relevant parties, including the governor of the Central Bank of Egypt and the ministers concerned.

A crisis committee was also formed to monitor the situation and review the availability of all strategic commodities, he added.

We ensured that factories remained operational at maximum capacity, which in turn stabilized the domestic market and prevented price hikes, he noted.

The prime minister also highlighted ongoing coordination with the petroleum minister to ensure the entry of regasification vessels on schedule, starting in early July.

On that score, he said there is an integrated, comprehensive plan to deal with the gas and electricity supply file, based on a sustainable strategy for power conservation, even after the crisis ends.

Meanwhile, the prime minister also offered greetings to the Egyptian people as well as to the peoples of the Arab and Muslim worlds on the occasion of the new Hijri year. (MENA)
