NEW ALAMEIN, Egypt, June 26 (MENA) - The State is working to address the issues arising from the amendments recently introduced to the Old Rent Law in a balanced manner, taking into account the interests of all parties, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli said.

Addressing reporters during a news conference following the cabinet's weekly meeting on Wednesday, Madbouli added the new law provides for a transitional period for liberalizing the landlord-tenant relationship, and that does not mean expulsion or forced eviction.

The government also takes into account special cases where some tenants cannot afford the new rental values, the premier said, noting that this group will be covered by the state's social housing programs for alternative housing.

Madbouli said the law seeks to restore some balance to a landlord-tenant relationship that had been inflexible for over six decades, citing experts' emphasis that the current situation must be changed, given the chronic housing crisis Egypt has been witnessing for decades.

He said the government is taking a gradual and thoughtful approach to addressing this issue, taking into account its social and humanitarian aspects, without prejudice to the legal rights of property owners. (MENA)
