CAIRO, May 10 (MENA) - Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty received on Saturday Deputy Head of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) Executive Committee and Vice President of the State of Palestine Hussein al-Sheikh.
Abdelatty asserted Egypt is continuing its mediation efforts to resume a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip in partnership with Qatar and US.
Additionally, the country is maintaining its tireless efforts to ensure the safe and sustainable delivery of humanitarian assistance into the war-torn enclave amid a fast deterioration in humanitarian conditions in the strip, said the foreign minister.
Official Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Tamim Khallaf said Abdelatty reiterated Egypt's complete rejection that Israel is using starvation of civilians as a collective punishment policy.
The spokesman added that Abdelatty welcomed Sheikh on his first visit to Egypt since assuming his new post and voiced Egypt's full support for the Palestinian National Authority.
Abdelatty talked about the early recovery and reconstruction in the strip in accordance with an Arab-Islamic plan.
In this regard, Abdelatty tackled ongoing preparations for an international conference for reconstructing the Gaza Strip, which is hosted by Egypt in partnership with UN and the Palestinian government.
Khallaf added that Abdelatty underscored the importance of establishing a serious, political horizon to implement the two-state solution and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the June 4,1967 borders with al-Quds as its capital as the only solution to settle the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
Sheikh expressed his high appreciation of the Egyptian role in supporting the Palestinian people. He commended the mediation efforts made by Egypt to resume the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. (MENA)
