PORT SAID, Egypt May 10 (MENA) - Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli on Saturday inspected the first phase of the comprehensive development plan of the West Port Said Port, during a field tour of the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone).
The tour was attended by Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport Kamel el Wazir, Minister of Supply and Internal Trade Sherif Farouk, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority Osama Rabie, and SCZone Chairman Walid Gamal El Din.
Gamal El Din said the port’s development aims to strengthen its position as a key hub on the Mediterranean Sea and a major player in regional and international trade logistics.
He added that phase one includes rehabilitation and paving of internal roads over 165,000 square meters, and redesigning traffic routes based on advanced mobility studies to improve truck access and exit.
He noted that an 18-kilometer fiber optic network has been installed, connecting five main data centers.
A new Port Management System (PMS) has also been implemented to support the single-window system adopted by the SCZone.
Gamal El Din also pointed to the completion of 8 kilometers of wastewater and rainwater drainage systems, in addition to a comprehensive firefighting network with 111 hydrants, 365 cubic meters of water tanks, and pumps capable of 1,000 gallons per minute.
He affirmed that exports from the SCZone reached $2.4 billion, adding that 2025 is witnessing a wave of inaugurations across ports and logistic zones. (MENA)
