MOSCOW, May 9 (MENA) - President Abdel Fattah El Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s unwavering support for the Palestinian cause, emphasizing the urgent need for a ceasefire in Gaza, the release of hostages and detainees and the delivery of sufficient humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza.

The statements came during a meeting Friday with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Moscow on the sidelines of the "Victory Day” celebrations in Moscow.

Abbas expressed deep appreciation for Egypt’s consistent efforts in supporting Palestine, highlighting the critical importance of a ceasefire and the release of hostages, especially in light of the daily loss of over 100 Palestinian lives.

Abbas noted that 149 countries have so far recognized the State of Palestine and stressed the importance of gaining recognition from remaining nations, particularly the United States and several European countries. He also emphasized the importance of Egypt’s support to this effort and the significance of the upcoming meeting in New York on June 18, 2025, in support of a two-state solution.

He outlined the major reform efforts being undertaken by the Palestinian Authority, stating that extensive outreach efforts are underway in the US to promote the two-state solution and the establishment of a Palestinian state, which have started yielding positive results.

Abbas also shed light on the Palestinian Authority’s dire financial situation, with Israel withholding approximately $2 billion in Palestinian funds. He stressed the need for the upcoming Arab League summit in Iraq to address this financial crisis and produce concrete outcomes.

Sisi expressed support for the reform measures implemented by Abbas, emphasizing the importance of fully carrying them out.

He reiterated Egypt’s dedication to taking all necessary actions to facilitate a swift ceasefire in Gaza and to ensure the entry of humanitarian aid to alleviate the ongoing crisis.

Sisi affirmed that Egypt will always stand steadfast in support of the Palestinian cause. (MENA)
