CAIRO, April 19 (MENA) - Ambassador in Bratislava Ayman Kamel hosted a meeting that brought together a group of ambassadors from Global South countries accredited in Bratislava with State Secretary at the Slovak Ministry of Foreign Affairs Marek Estok.
The meeting was attended by the ambassadors of China, India, Brazil, Turkey, Indonesia, Cuba, Libya, and Palestine.
During the meeting, Kamel highlighted the key factors that contribute to the importance of Global South countries, noting that they constitute approximately 45% of the world’s population, attract around 25% of global foreign investment flows, account for roughly a quarter of the world’s total GDP, and produce about 40% of global agricultural output.
For his part, Estok praised the Egyptian initiative to organize the gathering, stressing Slovakia’s keen interest in enhancing cooperation with the member states of the Global South, especially in light of the current global instability, which calls for greater rapprochement between the European Union and various regional blocs on both political and economic levels.
The Slovak Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the meeting on its official website as historically significant, particularly as it marked the first time a senior Slovak official had met with ambassadors from the Global South to discuss topics of mutual interest. (MENA)
