MADRID, April 5 (MENA) - Deputy Speaker of the Egyptian Parliament Mohamed Abou El-Enein was unanimously elected President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean (PA-UfM), the first time in over 15 years that Egypt has presided over the regional parliamentary bloc.
The voting took place during a session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean, held in Spain over the past two days in the presence of King Felipe VI of Spain and the speakers and representatives of the parliaments of 38 countries.
Meanwhile, Spanish Parliament Speaker Francina Armengol announced that Egypt will succeed Spain as chair of PA-UfM new session in June.
She commended President Abdel Fattah El Sisi for his leading peacemaking role in the Middle East, affirming her country's support for the Egyptian plan to rebuild Gaza and resolve the Palestinian conflict by working towards a two-state solution. (MENA)
