CAIRO, March 26 (MENA) - President Abdel Fattah El Sisi attended on Wednesday the Awqaf Ministry's celebration of Laylat al Qadr in the Arts and Culture City in the New Administrative Capital (NAC).
In statements, Presidential Spokesman Mohamed el Shennawy said that during the celebration, President Sisi honored the winners of the International Holy Quran Competition in the categories of memorization, recitation and interpretation of the Holy Quran.
President Sisi also honored Quran memorizers and reciters from non-Arabic speakers and people of determination, the spokesman added.
Awqaf Minister Osama el Azhari gave a word on this religious occasion and he then gifted the president a copy of a book, titled "The Right Set Forth In Responding To Those Who Manipulate Religion," followed by religious supplications (petitioning).
Giving a word during the event, President Sisi extended his sincere greetings to all attendees and the Egyptian people on this solemn occasion.
President Sisi also expressed his deep appreciation of Egypt's Grand Imam Ahmed el Tayyeb, wishing him good health and a quick recovery.
He also lauded genuine efforts exerted by all scholars of Al Azhar Al Sharif and the Awqaf Ministry to promote the concept of tolerance in Islam, correct mistaken religious ideas and thought, and enhance the positive image of Islam.
Also, he sent a message of reassurance to the Egyptian people, reiterating his appreciation for the cohesion and resilience of the domestic front, and noting that Allah Almighty is the constant protector of Egypt.
Laylat al Qadr, or the night of power, is believed to fall within the last ten days of the holy fasting month of Ramadan.
Laylat al Qadr is the holiest night of the year for Muslims, as the first verses of the Quran were revealed to the Prophet Muhammad during it. (MENA)
