CAIRO, June 29 (MENA) - Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli had a meeting on Saturday with CEO of Norwegian company "Scatec" Terje Pilskog, and CEO of "Yara Clean Ammonia" Hans Olav Raen on the sidelines of the EU-Egypt Investment Conference.
The meeting was attended by Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Tareq el-Mulla, Norwegian Ambassador in Cairo Hilde Klemetsdal, Chairman of the General Authority for the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) Walid Gamal Eldin, and Executive Vice President of Scatec Company for the Middle East and Africa Mohamed Amer.
During the meeting, Madbouli said Egypt and Norway have close cooperation ties, expressing his appreciation for the Norwegian companies that are implementing a number of important projects in Egypt, topped by "Scatec" company.
Madbouli congratulated the Norwegian company Scatec on its success in sealing two important contracts to purchase green ammonia from Egypt; one of these contracts is the first binding contract with "Fertiglobe" company to purchase green ammonia in the world.
For his part, CEO of Norwegian company "Scatec" Terje Pilskog said that the "Egypt Green Hydrogen" Alliance, led by the Norwegian company "Scatec", with "Fertiglobe", Orascom Construction, and the Sovereign Fund of Egypt, in cooperation with the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Co. (EETC) succeeded in signing a binding agreement with "Fertiglobe" company on selling green ammonia for a period of 20 years.
In 2021, the alliance started implementing the project, with the aim of developing, building and operating a green hydrogen production station, with a capacity of 100 megawatts, in the Suez Canal Economic Zone, he said.
The project produces about 13,000 tons of green hydrogen, which is converted into approximately 70,000 tons of ammonia produced from renewable energy per year, with a total investment of dlrs 500 million, through two solar and wind power plants, with a capacity of 270 megawatts to feed the hydrogen analysis and ammonia production processes, he added.
The CEO of the Norwegian company "Scatec" said that the company signed today a contract with the Norwegian company "Yara Clean Ammonia" to purchase green ammonia from the "Damietta for Green Ammonia Production" project, which the company will implement, with investments amounting to dlrs 900 million, in Damietta port, in partnership with Misr Fertilizers Production Company (MOPCO) and thr Egyptian Petrochemicals Holding Company (ECHEM).
Under the contract, "Yara Clean Ammonia" Company will purchase green ammonia from Egypt for a period of 20 years, he further noted. (MENA)
