CAIRO, April 15 (MENA) - Major General Mohamed Ibrahim El-Dewery, Deputy Director General of the Egyptian Center for Thought and Strategic Studies, has said Egypt has not merely observed the events unfolding in the region but has engaged with them politically, exerting every effort to contain these tensions.

He noted that Egypt continues to work day and night towards achieving a ceasefire in Gaza as a crucial step towards creating an environment conducive to resuming the peace process.

In statements to MENA on Monday, El-Dewery said "All recent developments affirm the effectiveness of the Egyptian political leadership's position, which warned from the first day of the Gaza war of the dangers of escalating the conflict in the region."

He considered the recent Iranian strikes against Israel as one phase of the gradual military escalation between the two countries, regardless of the field results of these strikes. He noted that there are voices within the Israeli government calling on Netanyahu to respond, confirming the strength of Israel's deterrence and sending a clear message to Iran that Israel will not stand idly by in the face of such developments.

He warned that these developments could put the region into an unpredictable explosion.

He pointed out that these recent developments and their escalation require all parties to act responsibly and adhere to a policy of self-restraint, attempting to move towards a new path that leads the region to the desired calmness instead of these tensions, which are not in the interest of everyone. He stressed that this new path must begin with ending the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip as a primary gateway to the desired calmness.

He concluded by noting that Egypt's vision will remain steadfast and clear, without any doubt, affirming that the state of instability in the region will persist as long as the Palestinian issue has not found its way to a fair and comprehensive solution, which can only be achieved through political negotiations leading to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.(MENA)
