BRUSSELS/CAIRO, July 14 (MENA) - Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas discussed Egypt-EU relations and the latest regional developments.

During a meeting with the senior EU diplomat on the margins of the 5th EU-Southern Neighbourhood Ministerial Meeting will be held in Brussels on Monday, Abdelatty hailed the strategic partnership between Egypt and the EU, outlining Egypt's vision on how to enhance regional cooperation within the framework of the Mediterranean Charter, the EU plans to launch by late 2025.

He thanked the EU diplomat for her support regarding the European Parliament's approval of a provisional agreement with the European Council on the second tranche of a €4 billion macro-financial assistance (MFA) package.

Reviewing Egypt's efforts to reach a ceasefire agreement in Gaza, Abdelatty emphasized the need to stop Israeli aggression, put an end to Israel's use of starvation as a weapon of war, and ensure safe access to humanitarian assistance for those in need in the war-torn strip.

He stressed that Israel must live up to its responsibility as an occupying power.

Abdelatty reiterated Egypt's position against displacement of Palestinians from their land, briefing the EU official on Egypt's plan to host an international conference for early recovery and reconstruction in Gaza as soon as a ceasefire is announced.

He said Cairo is looking forward to active European participation in the conference.

As for the situation in Libya, Abdelatty asserted the importance of respecting Libya's sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, as well as the need for concerted international efforts to implement UN resolutions regarding the withdrawal of all foreign forces, mercenaries, and foreign fighters from the sisterly Arab country to restore security and stability.

He also underscored the importance of supporting the unity and stability of Syria and adopting an all-inclusive approach for all national forces in Syria.

Reaffirming Egypt's unwavering position in support of Sudan's security, stability, unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, Abdelatty stressed the need to preserve Sudan's national institutions.

He also highlighted Egypt's commitment to engaging in active regional and international efforts aimed at reaching a ceasefire in Sudan and ending the humanitarian suffering of the Sudanese people.

Abdelatty also emphasized Egypt's firm position in support of Somalia's security, stability, unity, and territorial integrity, reiterating Egypt's solidarity with the Somali government and people in their efforts to strengthen the capabilities of Somali state institutions. (MENA)
