MALABO, July 13 (MENA) - Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi praised Angola’s current chairmanship of the African Union (AU).
During President Sisi’s meeting Sunday with Angolan President João Lourenço, on the sidelines of the AU’s 7th Mid-Year Coordination Summit held in Malabo, the capital of Equatorial Guinea, Sisi hailed the Angolan side’s commitment to strengthening joint African action across the various sector, said Presidential Spokesman Mohamed el-Shenawy.
President Sisi commended Angola’s leadership of the AU highlighting efforts to boost joint African cooperation in the various fields, he added.
For his part, the Angolan president hailed Egypt’s pivotal and historic role in the African continent and within the AU framework.
The meeting tackled issues of peace and security across Africa and ways to strengthen stability throughout the continent, including the situations in the Horn of Africa, Sudan, the African Sahel and the Nile Basin, according to the spokesman.
The meeting also addressed ways to enhance bilateral relations and explore broader prospects for cooperation in a number of fields, building on the momentum in relations between the two countries and aiming to fulfill the aspirations of the two brotherly peoples for prosperity and development, he said.
