CAIRO, July 8 (MENA) - Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Sherif Fathy inaugurated Tuesday the dome and mausoleum of Yahya al-Shabih in Old Cairo after its restoration.

Governor of Cairo Ibrahim Saber and Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities (SCA) Mohamed Ismail took part in the inauguration ceremony.

A video was screened showcasing the dome’s condition before and after the archaeological restoration, with documentation highlighting the full restoration process.

The mausoleum of Yahya al-Shabih is one of the Fatimid shrines dedicated to the Prophet’s family (Ahl al-Bayt). It is named “Al-Shabih” (the resembling one) due to his facial resemblance to the Prophet Muhammad, giving it a special religious significance.

The dome of Yahya al-Shabih is located on Imam Al-Laithi street in Imam Al-Shafi'i cemetery in El-Khalifa district of Fustat, Old Cairo. It was built by the Fatimid state in 545 AH / 1150 CE, at the order of Caliph al-Ẓafir bi-Amr Allah.

The minister also inaugurated the Dome of Safi al-Din Jawhar in Old Cairo after its restoration. (MENA)
