RIO DE JANEIRO, July 6 (MENA) - Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli called for enhancing cooperation among BRICS nations and focusing on joint interests to overcome the current challenges.

His call came during a speech that he delivered on Sunday in a session titled "Peace, Security, and Global Governance Reform", on the sidelines of the 17th BRICS Summit hosted by the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro.

The premier thanked Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva for providing a chance to discuss the issues of peace and security, along with the challenges of global governance.

Madbouli said the catastrophic humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip caused by the ongoing Israeli aggression, as well as Israeli violations in Lebanon, Syria, and Iran, stresses the urgent need to uphold multilateralism, international law, and the UN's central role.

He stated that BRICS countries should play a leading role in strengthening the structure of international peace and security and advocating for respecting the principles of international law and the United Nations Charter.

The prime minister highlighted Egypt's efforts to promote peace and security in the Middle East and Africa, saying his country enjoys extensive experience in mediation and conflict prevention, peacebuilding, and post-conflict reconstruction, in addition to resolving the root causes of conflicts.

He affirmed eradicating poverty and achieving sustainable development are key to conflict prevention. (MENA)
