SEVILLE, Spain, June 30 (MENA) - Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly stressed that Egypt attaches great importance to coordinating with the NEPAD Secretariat, emphasizing Cairo’s commitment to making the most of its remaining tenure as chair of NEPAD to advance the agency’s development plans.
During his meeting with CEO of the African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD) Nardos Bekele-Thomas, Madbouly highlighted Egypt’s keenness to cooperate with various countries to bolster development efforts and secure the necessary financing they need.
The meeting was held on the sidelines of Madbouly's participation, on behalf of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, in the Fourth United Nations Conference on Financing for Development, hosted by Spain’s Seville.
The meeting was attended by Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation Rania Al-Mashat, along with Egypt’s Ambassador to Spain Ehab Badawi.
For her part, Bekele-Thomas reviewed AUDA-NEPAD’s recent efforts to mobilize resources for development plans and programs across African countries.
She also highlighted the agency’s initiatives to establish a dedicated development fund and expressed her aspiration to benefit from Egypt’s expertise in supporting NEPAD’s work.
Bekele-Thomas further discussed progress on establishing a Center of Excellence focused on climate change, resilience, and adaptation, highlighting several events and activities that the NEPAD Secretariat is organizing in the current and upcoming periods.
Mashat, meanwhile, noted that she would coordinate with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Expatriates and NEPAD Secretariat in the coming period to arrange various activities and events that support NEPAD’s initiatives.
Madbouly reaffirmed Egypt’s support for launching the Center of Excellence on climate change and resilience, to make it operational soon. (MENA)
