CAIRO, June 29 (MENA) - Governor of the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) Hassan Abdullah, on behalf of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, attended the opening ceremony of the 32nd Afreximbank Annual Meetings that were held in Abuja, Nigeria.

The 2025 Afreximbank meetings were held under the theme of "Building the future based on decades of resilience", in the presence of a number of African heads of state, senior government officials, central bank governors, leaders of financial institutions and investors from across the continent, according to a press release by CBE Sunday.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the CBE governor said his participation in the meetings, reflected Egypt's firm commitment to supporting efforts for achieving sustainable development in Africa and strengthening the role of African institutions in addressing economic challenges, especially as the Afreximbank plays a pivotal part in bringing about economic and trade integration among African countries.

Abdullah met on the sidelines of the annual gathering with Gabon's President Brice Oligui Nguema and Afreximbank President George Elombi.

He paid an official visit to the headquarters of the Central Bank of Nigeria, at the invitation of his Nigerian counterpart Olayemi Cardoso, as they discussed ways of fostering cooperation between the two countries' central banks on promoting financial stability and stimulating innovation in fintech and digital transformation, as well as expanding cross-border cooperation.

Afreximbank annual meetings, which wrapped up on Saturday, addressed a wide range of topics of common concern, including ways to achieve economic transformation in Africa, strengthening institutional resilience as a cornerstone for sustainable development and exploring new approaches to financing investment and innovation in the healthcare sector.

The meetings also tackled prospects for establishing a strategic partnership between Africa and the Caribbean region. (MENA)
