Cairo, June 17 /(MENA) - Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty extended his sincere congratulations to Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad on her appointment as Executive Secretary of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD).
This is a testament to her distinguished competence, extensive professional expertise, and the high esteem in which she is held at the international level, Abdelatty said during his meeting on Tuesday with Fouad.
Abdelatty commended the robust coordination and close cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Environment in multiple fields, which strengthens Egypt’s prominent role in global climate action.
The meeting addressed ongoing joint efforts related to the Climate Responses for Sustaining Peace (CRSP) initiative, which was launched under Egypt’s presidency of COP27 through the Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping, and Peacebuilding (CCCPA).
The initiative reflects the integrated approach adopted by government entities to advance national priorities.
Abdelaaty also commended the collaborative efforts of both ministries in articulating Egypt’s unified position on environment-related issues.
He stressed the importance of stepping up efforts to develop environmentally and climate-focused projects, in preparation for their submission to major international financing mechanisms, including the Loss and Damage Fund and the Green Climate Fund.
The Loss and Damage Fund is a climate finance mechanism created during the 27th Conference of Parties (COP27), held in Egypt in 2022. (MENA)
