Abdelatty expressed Egypt’s pride in hosting over 1,600 German companies operating across diverse sectors in the country, particularly in industry, automotive, and energy, including fossil fuels, renewables, and clean energy, as well as green hydrogen production and exports.
The top diplomat emphasized the importance of expanding bilateral cooperation in development sectors, calling for a swift signing of the second tranche of the German debt swap agreement, which would enable the payment in Egyptian pounds to fund local development projects.
He added that trade exchange between the two countries was discussed in depth, highlighting the need to double the volume of trade and boost German investments in various sectors. Egypt, he noted, serves as a gateway to Africa, leveraging its strategic trade agreements under frameworks such as the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), COMESA, and the Greater Arab Free Trade Area.
Abdelatty spotlighted Egypt’s first high-speed electric railway, implemented by Siemens in partnership with Egyptian firms, connecting Ain Sokhna to Alamein, as well as ongoing joint projects in technology, energy, industry, trade, and transportation.
He stressed the growing importance of localizing industry in Egypt as part of the country’s national strategic development plan, capitalizing on the advantages of the Egyptian market and its advanced infrastructure, which has seen over $550 billion in investments. This, he said, offers a key export base for German products to reach markets across Africa and the Middle East. (MORE)
