The foreign minister went on to say that he had talks with his visiting Iranian counterpart on bilateral relations, as they underlined the importance of strengthening ties in various areas, in a way that serves the two countries' interests.

Abdelatty added that he agreed with the Iranian foreign minister on holding periodic political consultations at the sub-ministerial level on bilateral relations and several important regional issues of mutual concern.

The top Egyptian diplomat pointed out that his talks with the Iranian foreign minister covered a number of regional issues, most notably the Palestinian issue, which is at the core of the conflict in the region.

In this regard, Abdelatty stressed security and stability in the region cannot be attained without reaching a just settlement to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

He also underlined the urgent need for achieving an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and ensuring full access of humanitarian aid into the Palestinian enclave, in addition to releasing Israeli captives. (MORE)
