Minister Abdelatty emphasized the importance of the continued engagement of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in the crucial Iranian nuclear file.
He explained that both sides discussed recent developments related to the matter, especially within the framework of current negotiations between Iran and the United States, mediated by the Sultanate of Oman, regarding Iran’s nuclear program.
He once again welcomed Oman's role in this regard.
Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s support for this track toward reaching a political and peaceful settlement.
He praised the role of the IAEA and its director general in working to advance these negotiations toward a peaceful political solution that satisfies both parties, particularly amid complex, regional circumstances and at a very critical time.
He stressed the utmost importance of reaching a peaceful solution, noting that military escalation does not serve the goals of stability in the region or the interests of its peoples. He reiterated the importance of this track as well as the importance of avoiding military escalation, emphasizing that the region is already burdened with crises and security challenges.
He stated that Egypt rejects any escalation or incitement toward a military option and reiterated the importance of a peaceful solution and de-escalation in the region to avoid dire consequences and a descent into chaos from which no one would emerge unscathed.
He pointed out that Egypt is fully prepared—as affirmed by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi during his meeting with the director general of the IAEA and the Iranian foreign minister—to provide all necessary support to ensure the success of this peaceful path.
Egypt sees great importance in not missing the present opportunity to reach an agreement on this issue, given its direct implications for the security and stability of the Middle East region and beyond, he added. (MORE)
