CAIRO, June 1 (MENA) - Egypt and Qatar confirmed Sunday that they are continuing intensive efforts to bridge differences and work towards reaching a ceasefire agreement in Gaza.
In a joint statement they said these efforts are based on the proposal of US special envoy Steve Witkoff to allow the resumption of indirect negotiations.
According to the statement "Egypt and Qatar— in coordination with the United States— reaffirm their intention to intensify efforts to overcome the obstacles facing the negotiations."
The two countries called on all parties to act responsibly and support the efforts of mediators to end the crisis in Gaza, thereby restoring stability and calm to the region.
Both expressed their hope for a swift agreement on a temporary truce lasting 60 days, leading to a permanent ceasefire in Gaza.
"This would enable the resolution of the unprecedented humanitarian crisis in the Palestinian enclave, facilitate the opening of crossings, and allow the entry of humanitarian relief aid. The aim is to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people in Gaza, ultimately ending the war completely and beginning the reconstruction of the enclave, in accordance with the plan adopted by the emergency Arab summit in Cairo on March 4, 2025.'" they stated.
