CAIRO, May 22 (MENA) - Egypt welcomed the notable development in the position of influential international parties regarding their full rejection of the heinous Israeli violations in the Gaza Strip, the use of brutal military force against innocent, unarmed civilians in the enclave, and the unprecedented policy of starvation applied in international conflicts.

In a press release on Thursday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigration said this development in the international community's stand was clearly shown in the recent adoption of positive steps, including the joint statement by the leaders of France, the UK, and Canada, in addition to the European decision to review Israel’s compliance with Article 2 of the Association Agreement with the European Union.

The statement referred also to the ongoing steps by a number of countries to recognize the State of Palestine.

Egypt commended the steps taken by the international community to support the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, the statement said, adding that this will form the base for a broader international movement needed to put an end to a long history of Israeli violations against the Palestinian people.

Egypt expressed support for these steps amid hope for adopting more measures to stop the Israeli war on Gaza, the statement added.

Egypt also encouraged other countries to join this momentum to consolidate the principles of international humanitarian law.

Egypt underlined commitment to proceeding with its efforts in various international forums and with all regional and international partners to address the root causes of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict; namely Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territories and the denial of the Palestinian people’s legitimate rights.

This will lead to attaining the aspirations of the Palestinian people, topped by establishing an independent Palestinian state with Al Quds (East Jerusalem) as its capital, the statement said.

Egypt stressed that the implementation of the two-state solution is the only way to restore stability and security, and achieve lasting peace in the Middle East. Coexistence based on mutual respect and equal rights is the best way for the region's prosperity and integration. (MENA)
