CAIRO, May 21 (MENA) - Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty expressed Egypt’s interest in enhancing relations with Austria and advancing bilateral cooperation in economic, trade and investment fields.

This came during talks he held on Wednesday with Austrian Foreign Minister Beate Meinl-Reisinger, on the sidelines of the African-European ministerial meeting in Brussels, according to a press release by the foreign ministry.

Abdelatty encouraged Austrian businesses to explore investment opportunities in Egypt, highlighting the potential of strengthening technical cooperation through the activation of the joint committee.

He addressed the issue of migration, particularly frameworks for the regular and legal employment of Egyptian labor in Austria.

The top diplomat expressed Egypt's appreciation for Austria’s role in elevating Egypt-EU relations to the level of comprehensive strategic partnership in March 2024 and voiced hope for continued Austrian support within European Union institutions.

The two ministers also discussed key regional and international developments. The situation in Gaza was prominently featured, where Abdelatty shed light on Egypt’s efforts to achieve a ceasefire and the Arab reconstruction initiative for Gaza. He reiterated Egypt’s firm opposition to the displacement of Palestinians under any circumstances.

Additionally, the meeting touched on developments in Syria, where Abdelatty reviewed Egypt’s position toward the situation there.
