CAIRO, May 21 (MENA) – The Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli, approved amendments to the 1981 Education Law to expand pre-university education tracks.

The changes are intended to modernize the pre-university system and expand student pathways.

The Law introduces a new vocational secondary path and revises general and technical education to better meet labor market demands.

The new vocational path offers one- or two-year programs designed to prepare students for practical jobs.

According to the Law, advanced technological education will last five years. General secondary education remains three years, following nine years of basic education.

The Law also extends service for retiring teachers to the end of the academic year and introduces regulations for cooperative schools to ensure quality.

Course structures in general secondary education will include both core and elective subjects based on academic streams approved by national education bodies.

The revised Law defines pre-university education as 12 years, including nine years of basic education (six primary, three preparatory) and three years of general, technical, or technological secondary education.

Advanced technological education will last five years, while vocational secondary education will run one to two years.

In higher education, the Cabinet approved the creation and expansion of several private universities:

- Al-Orouba University in New Mansoura

- Misr El-Gedida University in 6th of October City

- Expansion of May University with a faculty of computer science and AI

- Restructuring of the Egyptian Chinese University into four independent faculties

Each institution must complete staffing, facilities, and academic agreements before beginning operations.

The Cabinet also approved 27 public service projects across several governorates and confirmed the proceedings of five recent meetings of the Supreme Compensation Committee. (MENA)
