CAIRO, May 18 (MENA) - Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli on Sunday held a meeting to follow up on progress achieved in projects to develop the old Imbaba airport site and Aziz Ezzat area, which are part of the Giza Governorate's Imbaba Urban Upgrading Project.
The meeting was attended by Sherif el Sherbiny, the Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, Adel el Naggar, the Governor of Giza, Khaled Seddik, the Chairman of the Urban Development Fund and a number of officials of bodies concerned.
During the meeting, Madbouli emphasized the importance of developing a comprehensive and integrated vision for upgrading unplanned, poor and densely populated areas, enhancing their infrastructure, improving the quality and variety of services provided, and optimizing the use of public parks as key components in achieving Egypt’s developmental goals.
The housing minister reviewed the implementation rate of the development work at the repurposed Imbaba airport site, saying that as many as 117 residential buildings of the project have been renovated.
The facades of 93 buildings have been refurbished, with an achievement rate of 80 present, Sherbiny said.
He added that testing and repairs of drainage and water systems have been completed for 100 buildings, with an 85.5% completion rate.
Sherbiny highlighted the plans outlined for managing and operating Giza Park to fully leverage its prime location and resources.
Meanwhile, the head of the Urban Development Fund expounded a plan for the development of the 351-feddan Kitkat area and the 42-feddan Aziz Ezzat area which are among the most populated poor areas in Imbaba.
