CAIRO, May 17 (MENA) – Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli inspected the first phase of Cairo’s new Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system, set to operate along the Ring Road.
The project, in planning for over 25 years, is now close to completion due to political backing and accelerated execution.
The electric bus line will span more than 100 kilometers, linking various districts of Greater Cairo and connecting with major transit hubs, including metro stations and intercity terminals. Stations are equipped with pedestrian access and nearby microbus and taxi services.
The first phase, 35 kilometers from the Alexandria Agricultural Road to the Police Academy, is fully ready.
The second phase extends to the Grand Egyptian Museum and is expected to open before July 3. Once completed, over 75% of the route will be operational.
For his part, Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister Kamel al Wazir said that the project will reduce traffic pressure and offer clean, efficient transport.
A total of 33 stations will serve the system. He urged drivers to avoid BRT lanes and passengers to use designated bridges and tunnels for safety. (MENA)
