CAIRO, May 11 (MENA) - The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources stressed on Sunday that motorists who filed complaints about fuel quality through the government hotline (16528) or the national complaints portal will be compensated with an amount equal to the cost of replacing faulty petrol pumps, up to a maximum of 2,000 Egyptian pounds.
In a statement, the ministry said it will contact citizens whose complaints were submitted between May 4 and 10, 2025. Claimants must provide proof of vehicle ownership and an official invoice for the pump replacement.
From May 4 to 9, a total of 870 complaints were recorded, with the highest number coming from Cairo (429 complaints), followed by Giza (208) and other governorates.
A total of 807 fuel samples were analyzed across Egypt by teams from the petroleum and supply ministries, as well as independent laboratories. Of those, 802 samples met national quality standards, while five were found to be non-compliant — including two in Cairo and Qalyubia, and two more in Beni Suef and Qena.
The minister said it decided to offer financial compensations after detecting some samples that failed to meet national standards and in light of the difficulty of knowing the technical cause of fuel pump failures as it might be caused by petrol quality, vehicle condition, or pump age.
It thanked citizens for their cooperation and reaffirmed its commitment to ensure a high quality of all products offered to citizens. (MENA)
