CAIRO, April 29 (MENA) - President Abdel Fattah El Sisi discussed preparations for the upcoming Arab Summit, scheduled to be hosted by Baghdad on May 17, 2025 during a phone call he received Tuesday from Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' Al-Sudani.
According to presidential spokesman Mohamed El-Shennawy, President Sisi affirmed Egypt’s commitment to ensuring the summit’s success, voicing his confidence in Iraq’s ability to lead joint Arab action in the coming year, particularly in light of the significant challenges facing the Arab region, which call for enhanced cooperation and solidarity among Arab nations.
For his part, the Iraqi premier expressed his appreciation for this confidence, emphasizing Iraq’s commitment to fostering comprehensive Arab consensus on regional issues, foremost among them the Palestinian cause.
The spokesman further noted that the call also covered ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation between Egypt and Iraq, particularly in the economic, trade, investment, infrastructure and transportation sectors. The two leaders stressed the importance of such cooperation in achieving the developmental goals of both countries and meeting the aspirations of their peoples for greater collaboration and prosperity, he said.
The talks also took up the latest developments in the region, particularly in the Gaza Strip and Egypt’s efforts to broker a ceasefire, Shennawy also said. Both sides emphasized the importance of implementing the Arab plan for the reconstruction of Gaza, while firmly rejecting any attempts to forcibly displace Palestinians from their land, he added.
The situation in Syria was also addressed, with both sides underscoring the need to preserve Syria’s unity, stability, and territorial integrity.
