CAIRO, April 28 (MENA) - The Ministry of Information and Communications Technology (ICT), the Middle East News Agency (MENA), and the National Press Authority signed a cooperation protocol to digitize MENA’s journalistic heritage, including TV news, reports, and photo archives.

The protocol was signed by Raafat Hindi, the Deputy ICT Minister for Infrastructure, Abdel Sadek El Shorbagy, the Chairman of the National Press Authority, and Ahmed Kamal, the Chairman and Editor-in-Chief of MENA.

Kamal thanked the minister and Project Advisor Engineer Hesham El Deeb for their support of the "Egyptian Cultural Heritage Digital Gateway" project.

He emphasized the importance of preserving MENA’s extensive archive—dating back to 1955—as a vital part of Egypt’s soft power and national memory.

Kamal noted that Egypt possesses a rich digital heritage unmatched by many countries and highlighted the project's role in attracting youth worldwide. He stressed that digitization is as crucial as infrastructure projects in building Egypt’s future.

El Deeb explained that the digital heritage project aims to make Egyptian cultural content accessible online, supporting Egypt’s Vision 2030 and strengthening the knowledge economy.

Cooperation with MENA spans three years, covering 70,000 archived photos and the digitization of 400 documentary films so far.

Representatives from all parties attended the signing ceremony. (MENA)
