CAIRO, April 22 (MENA) - Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat met with Charles Yang, President of Huawei Digital Power, to explore expanding cooperation to support Egypt’s digital transformation and renewable energy efforts.

Discussions focused on leveraging Huawei’s technology in energy storage to supply remote areas beyond the national grid, enhance energy efficiency, and reduce fuel consumption.

The meeting reviewed Huawei’s digital initiatives aimed at cutting electricity losses, preventing waste, and supporting off-grid industrial and residential zones. The company also plans to pilot its smart grid technologies in a selected governorate to combat electricity theft and modernize distribution networks.

Esmat emphasized Egypt’s partnership with Huawei in advancing smart grids, smart cities, and renewable energy solutions, highlighting Huawei’s role in key sector projects.

He highlighted significant investment opportunities in renewable energy and storage systems, supported by Egypt’s updated energy strategy and improved infrastructure and legislation to attract private sector participation.

He affirmed the sector’s commitment to reducing reliance on fossil fuels, upgrading networks, and adopting advanced communication and cybersecurity technologies to improve service quality and efficiency across the grid.
