CAIRO, April 17 (MENA) - Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat discussed with new CEO of Huawei Egypt Benjamin Ho the company’s plans to expand its investments in the Egyptian communications and information technology sector and opportunities of joint cooperation in number of fields, most notably digital transformation, digital capacity building and artificial intelligence (AI).
A statement issued Thursday by the ministry Thursday said the minister of communication congratulated Huawei's new CEO on the occasion of assuming his new post, voicing his aspiration for more joint cooperation.
Talaat stressed the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology’s keenness on strengthening partnerships with major international companies operating in the sector in order to achieve the goals of Egypt’s digital strategy and contribute to supporting the State’s efforts towards building a digital economy.
He referred to the role played by Huawei in implementing a number o projects in this regard , heightening Egypt's stand as a key hub for manufacturing electronics , IT and technological infrastructure, the statement said.
Meantime, he highlighted his ministry’s keenness on strengthening partnerships with major international companies operating in the sector, in order to achieve the goals of Egypt’s Digital Strategy as it would highly contribute to supporting efforts meant to build a digital economy, it added.
For his part, Benjamin Hu, CEO of Huawei Egypt, said: “I was honored to meet Dr. Amr Talaat, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, as Huawei has been operating in Egypt for more than 25 years and we will remain committed to our partnership by providing the latest technology, accelerating digital transformation and digital capacity building initiatives in order to achieve Egypt’s digital strategy,” read the statement.
The meeting discussed the latest developments regarding work of Huawei’s projects in Egypt, along with the country’s efforts to integrate IT technologies in vital sectors, it said.
Meantime, the two sides tackled cooperation in the field of using AI solutions to support digital transformation and to develop applications in the field of health, noted the statement.
The meeting also took up ways to enhance joint cooperation in a number of fields, most notably electronics manufacturing, government cloud computing and developing digital infrastructure by extending fiber-optic cables, in addition to supporting entrepreneurship by providing programs directed to emerging companies working in the field of artificial intelligence, including computing resources, the statement said.
