The Egyptian and Kuwaiti leaders underscored the importance of announcing the formation of a transitional government in Syria in a way that helps meet the Syrian people’s aspirations for security, safety and prosperity, said the statement.

They called for an inclusive political process in accordance with Security Council Resolution 2254, upholding the country's national interests, and preserving its institutions and territorial integrity, it added.

They also rejected interfering into Syria's domestic affairs, and stressed the need of combating terrorism in all forms and not allowing the presence of foreign terrorist fighters on Syrian soil, it pointed out.

In the same regard, the two leaders deplored the Israeli occupation forces' violation of Syria's sovereignty and taking hold of new parts of the Syrian territories, it said.

They called on Israel to respect international law and abide by the Agreement on Disengagement between Israel and Syria signed in 1974.

On Lebanon, the Kuwaiti emir and President Sisi welcomed the election of a new Lebanese president in a step that represents a pivotal step to complete the remaining political gains in the country.

They also welcomed the appointment of a Lebanese premier and the formation of a government in a way that helps state institutions to assume their role in meeting the Lebanese people's aspirations, the statement pointed out.

Meanwhile, they emphasized the importance of fully implementing a deal on halting all hostile acts, underscoring the necessity of a complete Israeli withdrawal from south Lebanon.

They also called for implementing UN Security Council Resolution 1701 by all parties. (MORE)
