CAIRO, April 9 (MENA) - Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Minister Badr Abdelatty asserted the importance of the Khartoum Process as a regional framework for addressing the issues of migration.

He urged adopting an approach promoting regional cooperation and respecting sovereignty of states, while focusing on sustainable development as a long-term solution to curb illegal migration.

He underlined the importance of promoting integration policies for protecting human rights.

He made the remarks during a meeting on Wednesday with Greek Minister of Migration and Asylum Makis Voridis on the fringe of the 2nd Ministerial Conference of the Khartoum Process.

Abdelatty underlined the strength of the Egyptian-Greek ties, lauding Greece's positive stand towards Egypt.

He highlighted the continued coordination with Greece in various files of mutual concern, especially in light of accumulating regional and international challenges related to migration and asylum.

He stressed the importance of following up on the implementation of an agreement between Egypt and Greece on seasonal workers in the agricultural sector which was inked in November 2022.

He underscored the importance of enhancing cooperation between Egypt and Europe, especially in light of regional crises which impose growing pressures on Egypt which hosts over 10 million refugees.

He voiced hope that the coming period would witness a boost in bilateral cooperation within the framework of a comprehensive approach bringing together the humanitarian dimension, economic development and security considerations.

He said Egypt is looking forward to continued enhancement of cooperation and coordination in light of Greece's current membership at the UN Security Council in the 2025-2026 term with an aim to promote regional stability and international security. (MENA)
