CAIRO, April 7 (MENA) - Following a tripartite summit here on Monday, the leaders of Egypt, France, and Jordan issued a joint statement expressing support for the upcoming Gaza reconstruction conference in Cairo.

They urgently called for an immediate return to a ceasefire to protect Palestinians and ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid, emphasizing the need to implement the January 19 ceasefire agreement guaranteeing the release of hostages and detainees, and the security of all.

The leaders stressed the imperative need to protect civilians and aid workers under international law. They expressed deep concern over the deteriorating humanitarian situation in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, urging a halt to unilateral actions that undermine the two-state solution and increase tensions, while reiterating the need to respect the historical status quo of Jerusalem's holy sites.

Rejecting the displacement of Palestinians and land annexation, they called for international support for the Gaza reconstruction plan adopted at the Arab and OIC summits in Cairo. They affirmed that governance and security in all Palestinian territories must be under the Palestinian National Authority, with strong regional and international support, and expressed readiness to assist in this effort.

Finally, they underscored the importance of the planned June conference, to be co-chaired by France and Saudi Arabia, in establishing a clear political path towards a two-state solution. King Abdullah II and President Macron thanked President Sisi for hosting the trilateral summit. (MENA)
