CAIRO, March 20 (MENA) – Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli on Thursday chaired a meeting to follow up on the progress made in projects to develop the Alexandria Corniche and the Fustat Hills Park. Both projects are carried out by the Central Agency for Reconstruction.
The meeting was attended by Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities Sherif El-Sherbiny, Alexandria Governor Ahmed Khaled, Head of the Central Agency for Reconstruction Mahmoud Nassar and Chairman of the Urban Development Fund Khaled Seddik, as well as other officials.
The housing minister highlighted the importance of road development projects in Alexandria, as they contribute to easing traffic congestion on old road axes, improving traffic flow and linking the city center to new urban communities in east and west of Alexandria.
Head of Central North Coast Development Agency Tarek Mowafi said the Alexandria Corniche will be expanded to reach 32 meters in width to include five lanes in each direction, instead of three. It will also comprise the construction of approximately 17 beach access gates.
The premier issued directives to finalize ongoing development works in the Alexandria Corniche as soon as possible.
Regarding the Fustat Hills Park, the housing minister said he gave instructions for accelerating the pace of work in the project.
The Fustat Hills Park project, which spans 500 feddans, is one of the largest parks in the Middle East and an “ecological leap” owing to its being the largest green space in the heart of Cairo.
It features archaeological sites, gardens, mosques, the Ain Al-Hayat Lake, green hills, and the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization (NMEC). It has a children’s creative center, the Qasaba and adventure areas, an investment area, an excavation zone, and an events plaza for different activities.
It has a marketplace for traditional crafts such as carpet weaving, and pottery, glasswork, and copperware, all aimed at reviving and effectively promoting these heritage crafts, while the Qasaba area has a cinema complex and terraces, a hotel, service buildings, car parks, and an artificial lake with a pedestrian bridge.
