CAIRO/JEDDAH, March 7 (MENA) - Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatti emphasized the centrality of the Palestinian cause to the Islamic world and the importance of unity in facing attempts to liquidate the issue and extinguish the hopes of the Palestinian people in recovering their homeland, through acts aimed at their displacement and the annexation and occupation of their territories.

This came during his participation on Friday in an extraordinary session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Member States of the Jeddah-based Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to discuss the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people.

In his speech, the top diplomat referred to the comprehensive plan presented by Egypt after full coordination and consultation with the State of Palestine for the early recovery, reconstruction and development of the war-ravaged Gaza, which was adopted by the extraordinary Arab summit in Cairo on March 4. He emphasized that this is a plan that preserves the Palestinian people's right to rebuild Gaza, maintains their right to stay on their land, and simultaneously addresses the catastrophic conditions in the Gaza Strip resulting from the Israeli war.

He outlined the comprehensive vision of the Arab plan, which includes three stages for early recovery and reconstruction, making it clear that Egypt intends to organize a Gaza reconstruction conference in collaboration with the Palestinian government and the United Nations to mobilize international support for the implementation of the Arab plan, as well as to establish a trust fund under international supervision.

The minister also affirmed that Egypt has spared no effort in seeking to end the war since its outbreak and continues working to ensure the stabilization of the ceasefire agreement in its three phases. He mentioned that an agreement had been reached with the Palestinian side to form an independent, non-factional committee to temporarily manage the Gaza Strip as a preparatory step for the full return of the Palestinian Authority to the enclave.

He said that Egypt is also working on training Palestinian police officers in preparation for their deployment to the Gaza Strip.

The foreign minister warn against any Israeli attacks on Al-Aqsa Mosque or any violation of its sanctity, assaults on worshipers, or disruption of the existing legal and historical status of the holy site.

The OIC meeting expressed full support for the outcomes of the extraordinary Arab summit, where the Arab plan for early recovery and reconstruction of Gaza was praised as a comprehensive plan aimed at supporting the Palestinian people in restoring their normal life.

The extraordinary session of the OIC’s Council of Foreign Ministers issued a resolution that adopted the outcomes of the Arab summit and the Gaza reconstruction plan. It urged the international community and regional and international financial institutions to promptly provide the necessary support for the plan and emphasized the importance of launching a political track for a permanent and just solution to the Palestinian problem to fulfill the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinian people in establishing their own independent state.
