CAIRO, Feb 27 (MENA) - President Abdel Fattah El Sisi received a telephone conversation from Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni to discuss bilateral relations and the latest regional developments.

Presidential Spokesman Mohamed el-Shennawy stated that the two leaders welcomed the growing partnership between Egypt and Italy, particularly in trade, investment, and energy.

They also agreed to strengthen cooperation in combating illegal migration. Meloni praised Egypt’s success in preventing illegal migration since 2016, noting its positive impact on European security.

Regarding the situation in Gaza, Meloni expressed interest in Egypt’s efforts to uphold the ceasefire, facilitate prisoner swaps, and ensure that humanitarian aid reaches civilians.

They also underscored the urgency of Gaza’s reconstruction while rejecting any forced displacement of Palestinians.

Additionally, Sisi and Meloni called for stronger international support to protect Palestinian rights and reiterated their backing for a two-state solution based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as the capital of Palestine. (MENA)
