CAIRO, Feb 27 (MENA) - Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov discussed in a phone call on Thursday, bilateral ties and regional developments.

During the phone conversation, Abdelatty stressed Egypt's keenness to continue promoting relations with Russia in accordance with the directives of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.

Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Tamim Khallaf said the top Egyptian diplomat lauded the profound historical relations between Egypt and Russia, citing the growing cooperation between Cairo and Moscow in different fields, especially after signing the comprehensive strategic partnership agreement in 2018.

Abdelatty underlined the importance of exchanging visits between the two states to enhance economic and trade ties, commending the ongoing cooperation between Egypt and Russia in constructing the Dabaa nuclear power plant and establishing a Russian industrial zone in the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE), as well as their joint cooperation in the sectors of oil, gas, tourism and aviation.

The spokesman added that the two ministers exchanged views on the developments in the Gaza Strip and Syria, where Abdelatty reviewed the ongoing preparations for holding an emergency Arab Summit on 4 March in Cairo.

The foreign minister briefed his Russian counterpart on the efforts exerted by Egypt to stabilize the ceasefire agreement in Gaza.

Abdelatty also posted Lavrov on Egypt's reconstruction plan for Gaza, while ensuring Palestinians remain on their land.

The foreign minister emphasized Egypt's rejection of any suggestions for displacing Gaza residents, calling for reaching a just and permanent solution to the Palestinian cause.

The pair also probed the latest developments in Syria, where Abdelatty affirmed Egypt's stance on respecting the Arab country's sovereignty, unit and territorial integrity. (MENA)
