CAIRO, Feb 24 (MENA) - Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty urged the Human Rights Council to play its role to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people and help them face the unprecedented humanitarian crisis in the war-ravaged Gaza Strip.

In a recorded speech addressed to the high-level segment of the 58th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (HRC), held in Geneva, Abdelatty said the HRC convenes today to discuss the widespread humanitarian crises in the world.

He reiterated Egypt's rejection of the Palestinian people's displacement,

He pledged to continue efforts to maintain the Gaza ceasefire agreement and implement its three phases, ensure the continuous flow of humanitarian aid and early recovery requirements, and devise a comprehensive plan for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip without forcing the Palestinian people to leave their land.

He also lauded the pivotal role played by humanitarian organizations, led by UNRWA.

Abdelatty underlined the national efforts being made to improve the human rights situation in Egypt, under President Abdel Fattah El Sisi's directives.

The Egyptian state has intensified its efforts to implement the objectives of the National Human Rights Strategy, he explained.

Egypt has also taken a number of serious steps and measures to improve the human rights system, most notably the activation of the Presidential Pardon Committee and the launch of the National Dialogue, Abdelatty added.

It also introduced new legislation, the most important of which is the new draft criminal procedure law, backing projects to boost economic, social and cultural rights, and launching initiatives to safeguard the rights of women, youth, children, the elderly, and people with special needs, the minister said.

He expressed Egypt's keenness to cooperate with the HRC and its mechanisms through dialogue based on respect, taking into account different circumstances and challenges.

He further noted that this cooperation culminated in Egypt's submission of its fourth report under the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) mechanism that was discussed before the Council in its session, held on January 28, 2025. (MENA)
